So can someone please explain to me what all this rarepair and multishipper hate is for?

I mean okay, I get that many of you feel that your OTPs and OT3s are threatened by multishipping or rarepairs… but honestly? You shouldn’t be. It just leads to that much more love and that many more amazing people you get to build relationships with when you move from the hate and onto acceptance. Sure, your pairing preferences are different but that doesn’t mean you can’t be friends or at least civil with a bit of respectful. It certainly doesn’t mean you have to hate on them and makes them feel like shit. It takes guts to post stories out into the wild.

It really kind of makes me want to quit fandom all together when people like ivanolix, cat-astrophiez and alfie949 get torn down just because they ship a few pairings others may not or write fic for unpopular pairings. I mean seriously, I get hate but I’m just of the belief that if you hate on someone you have no love to give. That just leads to feeling sorry for haters - but c’est la vie.

Who seriously gives a fuck if someone write’s an AU on Reckoning where Kahlan Amnell and Darken Rahl manage to move passed their animosity and slowly fall in love? Or if Richard is a manwhore and is wandering around with a few dozen bastard babies but makes googly eyes at Nicci or Denna in the end? Sansa and Tyrion manage to find love in each other’s arms (when Sansa is of an appropriate age) in a time of strife and they grow to love each other? Nicci and Kahlan are getting it on in one of the rundown houses during Tears? Okay! Does it honsetly hurt your delicate sensibilities if Lauren happens to get it on with Saskia or the Morrigan (especially when Bo is off fucking half of the Fae population for a pick me up)? Or maybe it makes you feel uncomfortable when Faith and Willow manage a loving relationship at the end of a story where there’s been lots of death and emotional turmoil?

If you don’t wanna read the ship then don’t read the story, it’s as simple as that. Not your cup of tea? Don’t drink it and then go on to complain about it when you were clearly warned from the beginning what type of tea it was. It is just rude to go out of your way to make someone feel crappy for sharing something they’ve put hard work and effort into.

If you really think about it - hating on stuff is pointless because it can all be boiled down to hating fanfiction. And, like, oh my god. Where would we be without fanfiction? O_O NO TV SHOWS LIKE LEGEND OF THE SEEKER OR OTHER SUCH AWESOME THINGS!

Let’s take a moment from this rant for a lovely little real life example, okay? Look at your Sword of Truth books (or think about them if you’re at work or don’t actually own them)… doing that? Good. Now look at your Legend of the Seeker DVD collection (or downloads or hulu account)… doing that? Compare and contrast for a few moments. You see it? Script = fanfiction when it comes to TV shows… ‘cause other than following the basic plot of the books - it’s a fucking AU.

If you really want to hate one someone, hate on me. I spend much of my free-time pondering extraordinarily insane pairings and how the hell they can work; half the time I post them! Hate on me and I’ll give you someone to verbally spar with, I really want someone who doesn’t run away with their tail between their legs after being told to politely fuck off in a little over 400 words.

But back to the original question at hand that started up before the rant…

Why all the hate?
